Earth Day Extravaganza 2008

It was a tie-dying, pot painting, seed planting, water ballooning (biodegradable even!), puddle jumping, drumming, face painting, henna tattooing, friend lovin', pot-lucking, pool splashing, bike riding, swinging, hammocking, stick running, hill rolling, picture taking (400+!) kind of day.

Add to that 50+ homeschoolers and gorgeous 80* weather and you've got one hell of a day. Really. (Ah, the winter blue's are lifting!)
Is it bragging to say I've got the best group of friends- kids and mamas alike- ever!? Well, you know I don't care if it is. ;)
Shall we let the pictures do the talking!? (Proud owner of a lightning henna tatt.)
(Absolutely LOVE the mix of teens, pre-teen and 4 year-old drumming away together.) (And then my crew imitating afterwards... :)(Love this one... Caden's asking for Simone's new inchworm friend.)(And love this sweet exchange between Bomey and her friend.)(Hmmm, do you think dumping and spreading everyone's newly potted seeds are a good idea? -But of course!) Here's hoping your Earth Day was as sunshine-y and friend-filled as ours. :)

So glad to see Charlie was not the only one dumping and spreading the newly potted seeds. Amazing photos Jess (we wouldn't expect anything less). Same time, same place, next year?

Awesome party!! Happy Earth Day!

"By nature people are learning animals. Birds fly; fish swim; humans think and learn. Therefore, we do not need to motivate children into learning by wheedling, bribing, or bullying. We do not need to keep picking away at their minds to make sure they are learning. What we need to do - and all we need to do - is to give children as much help and guidance as they need and ask for, listen respectfully when they feel like talking, and then get out of the way. We can trust them to do the rest."
John Holt
"In the end, the secret to learning is so simple: Think only about whatever you love. Follow it, do it, dream about it...and it will hit you: learning was there all the time, happening by itself." -Grace Llewellyn
"What we want to see is the child in pursuit of knowledge, not knowledge in pursuit of the child."
George Bernard Shaw
Real, natural learning is in the living. It's in the observing, the questioning, the examining, the pondering, the analyzing, the watching, the reading, the DO-ing, the living, the breathing, the loving, the JOY. It's in the joy. ~Anne Ohman
"How could youth better learn to live than by at once trying the experiment of living?" -Henry D. Thoreau
