Need to know who your evaluating audience will be before answering - if it is a mama-style crowd, would vote shoulder; more artsy-fartsy purist-type committee, would submit the hands. More information please woman!

shoulders..feel like I've seen the hands before.....?

Kim- Both audiences are voting. The photographer picks her 5 favs (she's more artsy), and then a bunch of moms vote. Helpful eh?

Elizabeth- Yeah - the hands feel somewhat cliched/overdone to me... but it may be just what the audience falls for.

Well, it is decided then. Photo #1 to be submitted from Jess Niles, #2 shall come from Ms. Virginia Jiles (channel Scarlett when pronouncing name #2 - has a very classy feel - sure to be a hit with the artiste).

Whichever one you pick, know they are both terrific, which is, of course, why there was a bidding war over your silent auction donation - you are a rockin' photog. Good luck!

They are both really fantastic pics Jess! If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the hands. I found myself looking at that one more.

I vote for the shoulder image. The other may get the "seen that before" response. Good captures, both of them!

Shoulders, I think could be considered both artsy and mom voter friendly.

I agree, the "hand" is more common. I vote for the "shoulder"!

Though they are both lovely, the hands have been done, done, done (and I'm sure they'll get a million of those). LOVE the shoulders!

i love both. mike chooses shoulders. he said it represents fatherhood better. the artsy me loves hands, but i think the better submission is shoulders. its a tough call. i don't think you can go wrong with either. good luck!

I'm too late, but hands.

Both are awesome but I'd have to go with the shoulders. So much more interaction, learning, adventure. To me it tells more of a longer story.

Definitely the hands. The way the child's hand is wrapped around his finger and then his thumb secures it all...say total connection.

Thanks for voting everyone! I really enjoyed getting so many comments and/or e-mails and I swear I wasn't just fishing for compliments. ;)

I really wanted to submit the hands picture but knew I should go with shoulders so I was hoping there was going to be a clear cut winner. In the end, shoulders won with 12 votes vs. 7 for hands. So I went with the majority.

Really I just wanted everyone to tell me what to do so I'd have you all to blame for not getting picked as a finalist.

Will keep everyone posted!

"By nature people are learning animals. Birds fly; fish swim; humans think and learn. Therefore, we do not need to motivate children into learning by wheedling, bribing, or bullying. We do not need to keep picking away at their minds to make sure they are learning. What we need to do - and all we need to do - is to give children as much help and guidance as they need and ask for, listen respectfully when they feel like talking, and then get out of the way. We can trust them to do the rest."
John Holt

Real, natural learning is in the living. It's in the observing, the questioning, the examining, the pondering, the analyzing, the watching, the reading, the DO-ing, the living, the breathing, the loving, the JOY. It's in the joy. ~Anne Ohman
